Alterations of breathing: Take a deep breath . . .
To begin conscious and controlled alteration of breathing requires an awareness of the “how” of breathing. Do you inhale through your nose, your mouth, or both? What about exhaling? Pay attention to your breathing for five minutes, and ignore everything but the rhythm and flow of your inhaling and exhaling, the current of your life. The mixture of oxygen brought to your brain is in delicate balance and to change it subtly or profoundly changes consciousness.
