Sunbathing allows hypnagogic and hypnopompic phenomena to develop at a variety of different intervals, depending on how much time one spends. The physical changes brought on by exposure to the sun—dehydration, excessive sweating, phosphene stimulation (when the sun is directly in line with the closed eyes), and the fatigue brought on by exposure—make sunbathing potentially a fine time for playing with altered states of consciousness.
